#79 meeting

Hello subscribers!

Our #79 meeting was held on February 3rd via Zoom, and we had a pleasant meeting with 14 members and 1 guest from United States!

Our Toastmaster of the Day, TM Kazuko Takayama smoothly led the whole meeting! We are applying the new time management policy for the small talk session to make the meeting more concise and well-organized. The small talk session was full of vivid updates of members as always.

In line with the meeting theme "self-improvement", the word "advancement" was Word of the Day which was chosen by TM Paul Peng.

In the prepared speeches session, we could see advancement of the three speakers; TM Anita Fujii, TM Shinsuke Ishihara, and TM Harry Woo.

First speaker Anita started her speech with her very first negotiation with her dad about buying an ice cream cone. She shared her preferred collaboration style with her experiences about leading the network of Japanese working women in her area.

Second speaker Shinsuke shared his thoughts on leadership style. Showing the opposite example of democratic leader, he told that he tries to be a democratic leader who works with team, and that the other types of leadership are necessary situationally.

Third speaker Harry shared his research on the confirmation bias on social media, after watching the Netflix documentary titled "Social Dilemma". He explained the psychological term, confirmation bias, and its side effect on Social Media with evidences.

Our Table Topics Master of the Day, TM Midori Yoshida, asked great questions about self-improvement. Six impromptu speakers joined the session; TM LanAnh Pham, Guest Akiko, TM Paul Peng, TM Hideo Imai, TM Takeshi Nakamura, and TM Yuki Morimoto.

General Evaluator TM Mikiko Bandoh smoothly coordinated the evaluation session. We had three well-rounded evaluators, TM Michael Whyte, TM Takako Yamada, and TM Takeshi Nakamura. Also, thanks to fantastic work from our Timer LanAnh Pham, Grammarian & Ah-counter TM Yukimasa Matsuda did great job for improving our public speaking skills.

That concludes my report. Please feel free to send me your feedback anytime. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
