Hi there, thank you for visiting our blog!
We are an online Toastmasters club based in Japan. If you are looking to brush up on your public speaking skills, come check us out! Our meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays from 21:00 to 22:20 (GMT+9).
Every second meeting of the month, we host a debate as our main session.
Today's proposition was: “24-hour operation at convenience stores should be more strictly restricted than it currently is in Japan.”
Two of our wonderful, experienced Toastmasters faced off in this debate.
The Affirmative side argued in favor of the restriction, highlighting environmental considerations, heavy workloads for staff, and high energy consumption. On the other hand, the Negative side pointed out that halting night services would negatively affect our quality of life. Night-hour operation provides community safety net and supply chain efficiency.
Both sides deeply understood each other's perspectives and discussed them thoroughly, point by point. It was an insightful and engaging debate to listen to!
Afterward, we held our Table Topics session. Today, our Table Topics Master used fortune cookies to prompt discussions about our experiences in the club; new challenges, active listening, and learning from failure. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the journey we have taken with Toastmasters.
One member shared a beautiful message:
“As long as you stick with it, you will achieve something and become a bigger person.”
Another member reminded us,
“We may make mistakes, but we can always take on new challenges in a safe environment.”
Yes, we are learners indefinitely. It all starts with just trying and taking the first small step. We are here to encourage you. Please come and join us at the Diversity Toastmasters Club👋
