Diversity Toastmasters Club Meeting＃208

We are an online Toastmasters club based in Japan. If you are looking to brush up on your public speaking skills, come check us out! Our meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays from 21:00 to 22:20 (GMT+9).

It was a memorable, the- end - of - the season session!

Today's main session was a debate.

The proposition was: "A tax increase for unmarried people is justified for Japan's future."

The Affirmative side argued that married people have to support their families and have less flexibility with their spending, which is why they need financial assistance from the government. On the other hand, the Negative side emphasized the importance of equality, arguing that marriage is a personal choice. Instead of introducing taxes, they suggested that welcoming immigrants would be a better solution, given the declining population in Japan. Both were experienced members in the club, and showed a model debating!

Since Japan is currently in the rainy season, the rest of our meeting was dedicated to that theme. ☔

During the Table Topics session, we also learned useful phrases like "a rainy day friend" and "Save for a rainy day!"

Rain or shine, our club always maintains an amicable atmosphere as we practice reading and speaking up in English!
