Toastmaster Meeting 2nd August 23
At 21:00 sharp the meeting started. (Time management is very important;))
Toastmaster Takako san started with Small talk session. We have about 10 participants including a guest from Canada. Almost all of them mentioned the scorching hot weather this summer. But one member had an exception because she lives in Hokkaido, northern part of Japan. I envy you, Aki san! I live in most southern part! They had 10 degrees lower than ours! Having said that, they also mentioned how to enjoy the hot summer including the Awaodori dancing festival, running!, and watching baseball tournaments. We had a good time sharing our interesting updates with each other as usual.
Next, Thoughts for the day conducted Mikiko san! She described what Jane Goodall said in her life. She is an English primatologist and anthropologist. She is considered the world’s foremost expert on chimpanzees, after 60 years studying the social and family interactions of wild chimpanzees. Sounds like she was a pioneer in that field. Also, Mikiko san quoted a couple of her messages for us. In a nutshell, she taught us how important not to believe that anything is impossible and make time for everyone. That leads to create a better society. How thought-provoking! Thanks for sharing, Mikiko san!
Today’s Word of the day is ‘for once’. It is used when something happens that does not usually happen. For example, ‘for once in my life’ or ‘why don’t you tell her how you really feel for once? Maybe it was not easy to use this word as often as possible during the meeting, but 2 members made it.
Thanks!
Now is the time when we start our impromptu speech session called Table Topic. Anita san prepared 5 questions and got interesting answers from the participants including the guest:what are your favorite activities during the summer?; if you have 1 week vacation, where is your best travel destination?; in Japan, many companies set temperature higher at their office buildings to conserve energy after 3.11?what is your advice to visitors from abroad to keep themselves cooler in the office?; if there are summer festivals in your area, please introduce one that you like; to fight the global warming, do you follow any ecological practices?
Then, we had the most exciting session, a prepared speech made by Kimiko San! She depicted 2 kinds of Robotic Process automation aka RPA: power automate and uipath. Though I’m an analogue person, I got the picture thanks to her detailed explanation with effective usage of visual aids.
Later, as her speech evaluator, Kazuko san did great job even to point out the improvements for her next speech though it seemed difficult to find any. Kudos to them ;)
Lastly, Aki san as General Evaluator summarize our meeting articulately by mentioning the good points and some useful advice for the next meeting. Thank you!
Well, next month, we have just decided to have an open house speech contest. Sounds interesting? Why don’t you give it a try for once? ;)
