Meeting #152

21st February 24 at 21:00 Asia/Tokyo

Word of the Day: meticulous=very careful, and giving great attention to detail

e.g.) We need a meticulous person to repair the special watch.

He planned our trip in meticulous detail.

3 sessions were conducted: Joke Master; Debate; Table Topic

Long time no see! Oh, I haven't written a blog on the last meeting. Sorry about that. I was so tired at work that I had no energy to attend the meeting.haha... Besides, it was not recorded for writing a blog due to some technical reason.

All right, now let's get started! For starters, we had a warm-up as usual. Do you want to know how we have been? To be honest, I didn't take any notes at the beginning of the session. I totally forgot...So I'm not sure I can write this blog in meticulous detail, but I hope you will get the whole picture and enjoy it ;)

Takako-san talked about an international party she attended and shared an interesting Kenyan cooking class. What drew my attention most to know was green bananas can be cooked as stew. She said they don't taste sweet at all unlike ordinary bananas we see on a regular basis. Rather, they taste like potatoes. I want to try some;)

Ritsuko-san has worked hard to make another speech. Sounds like it is a challenging task to do. Speaking of which, I haven't made a prepared speech for a few years at our club since the speech manuals are digitalized on the internet. I am an analogue person and I have missed that paper-manual!

Oh well, I have just been making an excuse...it's about time to make a speech soon like her.

This is a seasonal topic from Mikiko-san and Kimiko-san: hay fever. Due to a series of the strange weather these days, it is really warm in February. That has caused a lot of pollen to be floating in the air. I haven't developed hay fever yet, but I will be meticulous in avoiding the troublesome symptoms. I hope you will be as well.

Erika-san watched a movie about Gaza, but it was not a serious movie. She often introduced an interesting movie she watched to us. When you feel like watching a movie, you want to ask her what movie she recommneds. She will tell you in meitculous detail;)

Last but not least, Kazuko-san has run her English conversation school for many years. One day she remodeled the building with her coworkers. She shared a picture of the nice-looking school building with us. If I lived in Okayama, I would love to take Kazuko-san's lesson. She is one of my stars I admire and respect the most as a woman and a teacher:)

Speaking of her, the next session was a debate between Kazuko-san and me. The preposition was "School uniforms should be abolished." I knew I would lose it because I couldn't speak fluently like her and that was my second debate trial. Having said that, I did a lot of research beforehand and prepared for her speech. We don't decide who is the winner in our debate, but I think I lost it because every speech she made was outstanding with convincing explanations and reasons. I will be more meticulous to prepare for a good debater next time ;)

Oh, I should have mentioned the joke session conducted by Ritsuko-san before the debate report above. It was about 3 people who were stranded on a desert island. One day they happend to find a lamp. When one of them rubbed it, Genie from the movie Aladdin appeared and said, "I will make your wish come true." 2 of them had the same wish: They wanted to get back to their loved ones at home. But....the last man wished to have those 2 men brought back to him. haha...Even though I could imagine what the last man's wish was, I burst into laughter like other members. We had a pleasant moment. Thanks, Ritsuko-san!

As the last session, we had a table topic related to Feburary conducted by Takako-san. Since we were running out of time, we had 3 questions to answer:"What do you think of our emperor's system?"; "14th is the St. valentine's Day. Do you give or receive presents on that day?"; "11th is National Foundation Day of Japan. If you could be born in another country, which country would you like to be born in? And why?"All of them were quite interesting. I especially like the last one. Which country? It's a secret, but I would like to live there in the future;)

That's all for my report. I hope you have enjoyed reading it. Thank you for your support as always, honorable readers!
