Ginza! July 16th, 2017
Ginza News Letters Introduction On Sunday, 16th July, Ginza Toastmasters Club had a regular meeting at Kyobashi-Plaza-Kuminkaikan in Ginza. We heard a beautiful speech from the special guest and enjoyed entertaining some Workshops from the regular members with the guests. Roles The meeting started with a welcome speech from the President of the Club Drian who introduced the Club’s guests. Guests included TM Reiko, TM Maki, TM Yuki, TM Masayo and TM Tomoaki. During the opening, he also entertained us by doing quick warm-up exercise. Then he handed it over to Toastmasters Yuki, and Yuki introduced Timer TM Maki. Song of the Day Yuki took the audience on a very passionate song “Take Me in Your Arms” The Doobie Brothers, 1975. We very much enjoyed ourselves and learned a useful phrase “Stampeded” in this song. Prepared speech The special speaker was Reiko with her Speech CC 1 titled “Your Words”. She started with asking on “what is the Toastmaster for you?”. She revealed Toastmaster QA session in which she was interviewed, most importantly, sharing a very touching story with her friend. Her speech devoted to her strong passion – Toastmasters. In just six minutes Reiko made us all want to think about “what is the Toastmaster for me?”. Workshops Then Paul led the first workshop of topic “Tall Tales”. It was our first time to know about “what the tall tales is”. He suggested some tips on how to make tall tales by thinking about “what would happen if…”. Paul invited us to try out tricks to twist real stories to make the audience entertain and encouraged us to look at “Watch Big Fish”. A quick practice and wonderful comments followed afterwards. After the short break, Yuko did the second Workshop “How to spot a liar”, catching an attention "Everyone is a liar”. Then she told about TED talk on this topic and exercise on how we can spot a liar. The four liars made their wonderful presentations about a topic of their choice, including three pieces of information that are not true. The listeners determined when the speaker was not telling the truth. Drian was the last workshop presenter, talking about “Assertive Communication”. We firstly shared our ideas on “what the assertive communication is”, then he gave us key elements, such as “express feeling or opinions”. His speech also included some tips on how to deal with negative situation in a workplace, for example, “Can I ask you to work overtime today?”. We could say “I cannot work tonight, but I can help you tomorrow.” We learned a lot from him. After the Workshops, we heard from the special evaluator – Sara for Reiko. Finally, our visiting General Evaluator, TM Masayo evaluated our club and the meeting. Next meeting The next meeting will take place at Kyobashi-Plaza-Kuminkaikan, on Saturday, 29th July, at 14:00. Yuko will do the TMOD. Come over to practice your public speaking skills and enjoy delicious cafe in Ginza!
