Ginza! 26th May, 2019

Ginza Toastmasters Club held their latest regular meeting on Sunday,26 May at Kyobashi-Plaza-kaikan, in Ginza. We were treated to a great workshop, song of the day, prepared speeches, and a table topics session from the regular member with the guests.

1. Introduction Yuko, President of the Club, welcomed guests and club members with an opening remarks for the power of speech, and passed the floor to TMoD Eva who explained the running order of the meeting and declared the Word of the Day "Passion, Mission". She then expressed a warm welcome to our guests including Alex (from Meetup!), Sharon (USA TM, from Meetup!), Koh (from Meetup!), and Mr. Sugiura (Eva's friend).

2. Workshop The global presenter, Yuki led a step by step, hands-on and practical workshop titled "Scoop from WORLD CLASS SPEAKING by William Reed". His workshop started with a "scoop construction method" that contained "Message, Opening, Closing", then members and guests were invited to prepare a short speech which must incorporate these elements. Following this activity, he put another scoop -delivery method (How to Vocalize, How to Move and How to Pause) - which would affect how others see us. In demonstration session, when challengers (Yossy, Alex, Tomomi) were done with their speeches, we got an oral evaluation from the World Class Speakers; Drian and Paul, including; Start "YES" question, put personally connection to engage the audience, and give a clear message in the closing.

3. Song of the Day The song master Sugar chose “Everybody Loves Somebody” written by the writing team of Sam Coslow, Irving Taylor and Ken Lane in 1947. Arguably one of Dean Martin’s best songs, “Everybody Loves Somebody ” topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964. During the session, we carefully listened to Sugar's valuable explanation and sang together afterwards.

4. Prepared speeches The first speaker Yuko challenged her Special Occasion Speeches #3-The Roast- titled with "Rolling Salty Diamond". Her personal speech was all about to adapt humor, incorporate jokes and put humorous stories to illustrate her one of the best friend who was like a rolling stone that gathered no moss but later became a shining diamond.

Next to speak was Shinsaku, with the Presentation Mastery #40 -Know Your Sense of Humor- titled “Misunderstanding". He crafted the humorous speech by sharing his upset experience about "escape ghost" that made English students really misunderstood.

The last speaker Drian was his Presentation Mastery #4-Researching and Presenting- titled "Probably Absolutely". He selected a topic of "Statistics" which we would normally not be interested in. While using statistics in public speaking can be a powerful tool, we should also remember that statistics could manipulate people easily. His presentation serves as a good reminder that before a set of statistics can be used, however, it must be made understandable by people who are not familiar with statistics.

5. Table Topic Master Table Topics Master Yuko then organized a table topics session centred around the theme of "Witness for the Prosecution", where the room transformed from a meeting to a courtroom; and the audience was the jury. TTM Yuko accused each selected participant (Drian, Gacky, Sugar) of a crime; and they were invited to prove their own innocence. Highlights included a crushed skull in Drian, a saturated suspect in Gacky and a bunch of chocolates in Sugar.

After the table topic session, General Evaluator Paul called three brilliant evaluators: Tomomi for Yuko, Yossy for Shinsaku, and Gacky for Drian. Finally. Paul evaluated our meeting.
