Ginza! August 26, 2018
Ginza Toastmasters Club held their latest regular meeting on Sunday,26th August at Kyobashi- Kuminkaikan, in Ginza. We were treated to a special workshop, three high-quality speeches and an exciting table topics session from the regular members with the guests.
1. Opening
Yuko, President of the Club welcomed everyone to the meeting and pointed out how being of Toastmasters can gradually help us become better communicators. TMoD Eva then took over and invited Yuki to conduct his workshop.
2. Workshop Yuki organized the great marketing workshop, titled “Value Proposition Work” (#2). As mentioned at the last meeting, he navigated all to map customer’s gains and pains for Ginza to identify Ginza values during the workshop. Using visual aids and giving “Apple” as an example of marketing, Yuki invited members and guests to conduct frank and lively exchange of views on how Ginza really understood our potential members by proposition value canvas. He concluded that it would be very important to identify what Ginza really offers, what they want to be, and how Ginza achieves it.
Just before the break Eva welcomed our wonderful guests, including Ririna, Satoshi, Shinsaku, Kiji, Yuriko and Henry, and gave each of them an opportunity to introduce themselves and make a short speech.
3. Word of the Day After the short break, Eva explained the running order of the meeting. Then, Kenny announced the word of the day – “Ecstatic” , which means extremely happy.
4. Song of the Day Yuki selected “HAPPY”, 2013 single by Pharrell Williams. It is a “Ecstatic” song and made us to want to get up and dance (and we actually did!) We felt better when we played this song. Yuki, a great pick us up song that always made us extremely happy!
5. Prepared speeches The first speaker was Bin, with her Storytelling #5- titled “My grandmother's love life”. she delivered an emotional and passionate speech about her grandmother’s life. Bin's grandmother's amazing marriage life was confirmed, Bin learned a great deal from her. Here were lessons Bin learned from her; Being honest, laugh and support and an importance of family members.
Yossy was the second to speak. His Motivational Strategies #1- titled “Masahiro” was a personal speech about a life of his father Masahiro, who recently passed away. He shared with us some stories of his father’s lifelong interest “Fishing”. He gave a powerful message in the last that when we find something that catches our interest, then keep doing that. Very heartfelt and well performed.
The last speaker was Ririna with this spring competition speech titled “Line”. Ririna’s was an inspiring speech about her seeing difficulties. She shared with us her struggle with her narrow eyesight and urged us to look at “line” between her and us and break it.
6. New member induction ceremony An induction ceremony is a wonderful step in Toastmasters relationship. VPM Yuki welcomed the inductee, Hiroyuki Yamaguchi into Ginza and he stated her Ginza’s expectations and the Ginza's memberships' responsibility to them. Both of regular members and new member promise to contribute to the other's success.
7. Cerebration of 2nd birthday of Ginza We then celebrated Ginza 2nd birthday with a strawberry sponge cake prepared by Eva.
8. Table Topic Session Table Topics Master Romi then led excellent impromptu session on various topics, which Yuko, Henry, Kiji and Paul joined. Highlights included 20th birthday determination in Yuko, special and unique Pari’s family trip in Henry, Kumagaya fireworks in Kiji, and water scary and wonderful mountain in Paul. Then, our first try, Table topic evaluator Yuko evaluated each speaker afterwards.
9. Evaluation
After the table topic session, General Evaluator Masayo invited three wonderful evaluators – Tomomi for Bin, Kenny for Yossy and Paul for Ririna. Finally, Masayo evaluated our meeting.
